Thanks for your question. If I understand your issue, the reason you are seeing duplicates is because you chose the 'Merge' option instead of 'Replace' when you synced your iTunes library to your iPhone. The songs that you are seeing with the iCloud symbol are songs that you have purchased from the iTunes store. Since you already had these songs on your iPhone, when you 'merged' the information, you are now seeing the iCloud version as well.
On your iPhone, you can change your view options to only show what is on your device.
In the Music app on your iPhone, tap Library (lower left). Swipe to the bottom of the list of choices (Playlists, Songs, etc.) and you will see 'Downloaded Music'
There you will see 'Showing only music on this iPhone.'
